HowTo – Install WeTab OS in a virtual machine

1. Download and install Virtual Box

Get it here! (tested with 3.2.12)

2. Download the WeTab OS Virtual Machine tarball

- Containing WeTab-2.0-wetab_dev-vm-sda.vmdk (the disk image itself), WeTab OS Dev.mf (checksum file for the disk image) and the configuration / WeTab OS Dev.ovf (config file in Open Virtualisation Format)
- Torrent-Link: Get it here!
- MD5-checksums: Get it here!

3. Unpack the tarball

On Linux: tar xf tiitoo-dev-vm-2.0.tar or use your favorite GUI tool to unpack
On Windows/Mac: Use 7zip / Winzip / WinRAR / UnRAR ….

4. In Virtual Box click File -> Import Appliance

5. Select WeTab OS Dev.ovf

6. Start VM and run update as descriped below

Update VM to newest software version

Due to massive refactorings in the base packages of the WeTab OS, there is some handwork necessary, to enable future automatic updates for the developers VMs again.

1. Press Alt+F2 (on Mac: FN+Alt+F2) to open the run program window and type “terminal”

2. Type “sudo su” and enter “wetab” as password

3. Type “rpm -e tiitoo-client

4. Type “yum clean all”

5. Type “yum -y install tiitoo-client-transitional-vm”

6. Type “yum -y update”

7. Type “reboot”

The new keyboard (meegotouch based) currently does not work properly in the developers VM and will be activated with a later update. So you will need to reactivate the old keyboard:

1. Press Alt+F2 (on Mac: FN+Alt+F2) to open the run program window and type “terminal”

2. Type “sudo su” and enter “wetab” as password

3. Type “tiitoo-set-keyboard.sh matchbox”

4. Type “reboot”

HowTo – Get Root Access on WeTab OS

1. Open the WeTab Market

2. Go to category “Tools & Utilities”

3. Choose “RootShell” and press “Install”

4. After installation you can start a shell and become root via “sudo su” and your user password

Required RPM Packages

Before starting with Widget Development you need to make sure that the following rpm packages are installed on your developer virtual machine. All rpms are available in the regular WeTab update repository, so you can install them using yum.

HowTo – Install WeTab OS with Recovery USB Boot Stick

1. Download Image

- Torrent-Link: Get it here!
- MD5-Checksums: Get it here!

2. Build USB Boot stick

- Same as standard MeeGo way, see here. Under Windows you have to rename the filetype to “.img” (WeTab-recovery.usbimg.img)

3. Install new WeTab OS from USB stick

- Be sure that your WeTab is connected to the mains socket
- Plug in USB stick (Stick with LED prefered)
- Press power button
- Once the WeTab starts to boot (Blue LED on WeTab lights up or LED on stick lights up) press power button together with quickstart button (round area in top left corner of touch screen) for approximately 1 second (longer press will shut it down again)
- Recovery Mode will start
- Follow the instructions display on the recovery screen

HowTo – Boot from another device or enter BIOS

3. Boot from another device or enter BIOS

- Be sure that your WeTab is connected to the mains socket
- Plug in USB stick (Stick with LED prefered)
- Press power button
- Once the WeTab starts to boot (Blue LED on WeTab lights up or LED on stick lights up) press power button together with quickstart button (round area in top left corner of touch screen) for approximately 1 second (longer press will shut it down again) and press F11 repeatedly until the boot menu shows up
- Select proper action
